XLUR8 Files for IRS Tax-Exempt Status (17Aug2012)

XLUR8 has achieved a “Means” milestone!

XLUR8 is very pleased to announce that on August 08, 2012, we filed our IRS Form 1023 “Application for Recognition of Exemption Under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code”. We received our receipt from the IRS for this filing on September 17, 2012. (PDF)

This is an important “Means” milestone for XLUR8. The IRS Form 1023 is an important public document which establishes the scope of XLUR8’s mission with the definitions of an “educational”, “research”, and “public charity” organization organized and operated for “not-for-profit”, tax-exempt purpose. Once the IRS has issued a favorable determination letter at the conclusion of the review process, XLUR8 will make the complete document available for public inspection as a foundation for our philosophy of transparent, accountable governance and stewardship.

What’s next?

While we await our final determination letter, XLUR8 will continue with our high-level organizational and process “Means” modeling in collaboration with a growing number of other not-for-profit organizations, probono professional services contributors, and other volunteers. Once we have discretely scoped our direct assistance programmatic components, a time-phased budget will be created for each programmatic and non-direct support function. It is our hope to share XLUR8’s story with the public, along with the time-phased budgets for each programmatic and support component as we begin to engage a broader community for resource support.
